Tokyo Motor Show 2017 : Drive Your Ambition @ Mitsubishi

This year, Mitsubishi celebrates its 100th anniversary since the launch of the Model-A, the first Japanese car produced in larger numbers. During the press conference at the Tokyo Motor Show, the Mitsubishi executives presented their new brand strategy, called “Drive your Ambition”, with a focus on tech, design and global production of SUV’s.

Eclipse Cross

The first model to be produced since Mitsubishi joined the Renault-Nissan alliance is the Eclipse Cross, a turbo charged 1.5 liter coupe-like SUV that offers enhanced connectivity, comfort and safety. The vehicle will be launched in Japan before mid-2018 and rolled out in Europe, North-America and Australia before becoming available in the rest of the world.

e-Evolution Concept

The world premiere of the e-Evolution unveils a cross-over SUV that is electric and high-performance. Powered by 3 electric engines, the aggressive looking sportscar / SUV features multiple cameras and sensors that power an AI system that can read road an traffic conditions and understand the driver’s intentions. It will even coach or train the driver by giving direct vocal feedback. The interior is surprisingly spacious, mainly due to the fact that there’s no ICE and batteries are sitting under the floor in the centre of the vehicle.

Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi

Except for the fact that Mitsubishi’s stand is located next to Nissan and Renault on the Motor Show, very few indications were given about synergies between the brands. The Brand’s CEO very briefly mentioned the “dramatic change” generated by joining the alliance as well as the benefits of scale of sharing technologies (electric, autonomous and connected). He added that Mitsubishi has ambitious sales objectives and a strong will to restore the confidence of the customer.
