This is the new Porsche Macan

Porsche has unveiled the facelifted 2018 Porsche Macan in China, a particularly important market for the Macan, home to almost a third of all Macans manufactured to date.

Purists still consider the Macan a travesty that is diametrically opposed to the essence of a sports car manufacturer, but most people have come to grips with the new reality we live in. Climate change is happening, democracy is no longer a given, the truth is just an opinion and SUVs can be sports cars.

In the case of the Macan, a very important sports car. Worldwide, the Macan has outsold the 911 by a three-to-one margin in the past year.

LED headlights

Its LED headlights in particular are an improvement over the previous uninspired two-by-two design. At the back, the three-part, three-dimensional LED light strip is also brand new.

The new Traffic Jam Assist includes an adaptive cruise control that promises more comfortable and relaxed driving at speeds of up to 60km/h. The system partially automates acceleration and braking and it assists with steering in slow-moving traffic.

GT steering wheel

The facelifted Macan features the optional GT sports steering wheel from the 911, helping to lend it a sportier look and feel. The chassis and tyres have also been modified for a more comfortable and at the same time fun ride.

The touchscreen has grown from seven to eleven inches. Porsche says the infotainment system can be customised using predefined tiles. The Macan also boasts new air vents that are now positioned below the central screen.

Connect Plus

Each Macan is equipped with a Connect Plus module which underpins various digital functions and services such as intelligent voice control and real-time traffic information.

No diesel variants have been announced and a hybrid Macan is unlikely for this generation.

The Macan that was unveiled in Shanghai this week is an exclusive model for the Chinese market. Other models and markets will follow later this year.
