ALD and LeasePlan in talks to merge

Tex Gunning - Leaseplan and Tim Albertsen, ALD

Global Car-as-a-Service provider LeasePlan has announced that its shareholders and LeasePlan are holding discussions with ALD and Société Générale concerning a potential combination of LeasePlan and ALD to create a global mobility leader.

The news has also been confirmed by ALD Automotive. It’s not certainty at this stage whether the deal will go ahead as it’s subject to various conditions, including receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals but if it does, it will result in the merging of the two businesses into one of the largest leasing and mobility companies in the world.

The news about a possible acquisition and merger doesn't come as a big surprise, but it's the first time both parties officially confirm they are in discussion. It's no secret that ALD Automotive is aiming to further expand its global fleet and business mobility activities.Only recently ALD acquired Fleetpool in Germany, while LeasePlan saw its used-car specialist CarNext being carved out into a fully independent business.

LeasePlan has approximately 1.8 million vehicles under management in 29 countries and ALD Automotive provides mobility solutions, full service leasing and fleet management services across 43 countries and manages 1.76 million vehicles. Together they would become a true global corporate mobility giant.

Further announcements will be made in due course.
