Jorge Fernández (Roche) is Global Fleet Manager of the Year

The 2019 Global Fleet Manager of the Year is Jorge Fernández (pictured right), Global Category Manager Fleet at Roche. He received his award at the 2019 Fleet Europe Summit on 7 November in Estoril, Portugal.

The award was presented by Stefan Herbert (pictured left), Senior Manager of International Corporate Sales at Mercedes-Benz.

Together with his team, Jorge Fernández manages a global fleet of 14,200 vehicles. The team consists of three Regional Category Managers for Fleet & Travel, with Tania Mijas in the United States, David Staples in Australia APAC and Daniele Brigatti in Switzerland. Under the responsibility of Mr Fernández, they successfully developed a global strategy with a new governance model to harmonize financing criteria, processes, and vendor management, for all company divisions and all regions.

Together with his team members, Mr Fernández strives to provide the best company car solutions to Roche’s employees, in line with the company’s green guidelines – while preparing the transition to mobility packages, electrification and connectivity. His ambitions include: a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions by 20% in 3 years; an increase preferred vendors usage to 90%, and finally, the extension and merger of previous European and North American strategies to the rest of the world. The jury was impressed by the excellent analysis Mr Fernández provided of the cost elements of his strategy.

The runner-up for Global Fleet Manager of the Year is John Dmochowsky, Global Fleet Manager at Mondelez International. Mr Dmochowsky received his award from Michael Beck, Managing Director at Fleet Logistics. 

Mr Dmochowsky is the first American fleet manager to win a prize at the Fleet Europe Awards. Mr Dmochowsky manages a global fleet of over 10,000 vehicles. The jury was impressed by Mr Dmochowsky’s holistic vision regarding global fleet management optimisation, with the successful engagement of his top management at HQ and his team members in the various regions, with David Weeks in Europe, Vincent Ricciardi in North America, Diego Ferto in Latin America and Christian Armstrong in APAC. 

Mr Dmochowsky and his team have contributed to a significant cost-saving initiative, resulting from a significant change in the global fleet selection process, together with policy harmonization. From 2015 to 2016 there was a 21% reduction in global fleet spend, continuing until today with a total 7% reduction in the Total Cost of Ownership between 2017 and 2019.
