Fleetcor, Petrobras bring card-less fuel payments to Brazil

US-based commerical payment solutions company Fleetcor Technologies has closed a deal with Brazil state-owned oil company Petrobras, enabling card-less fuel payments at the latter's BR gas stations throughout Brazil.

The process involves using Fleetcor’s Radio Frequency Identification (“RFID”) technology at many of the busiest BR gas stations in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (the country’s two largest cities), as well as other areas.

Fleetcor subsidiary CGMP (also known as STP) which does business as Sem Parar in Brazil, is the country’s leading electronic highway toll payments provider.

After being enrolled in the RFID program, CGMP will provide BR customers with an RFID tag which can be affixed to their vehicles’ windshield. The tag will enable faster, safer and more secure payments as customers can pay for fuel without ever leaving their vehicle.

BR intends to promote the payment solution to its 12+ million “Premmia” loyalty program members and  CGMP will promote the solution through their existing sales channels.

“We are excited to partner with BR and introduce RFID-powered payments to millions of its customers. This partnership is yet another milestone in our long-standing relationship and provides Fleetcor an opportunity to significantly grow our fuel payments business in Brazil,” says Fleetcor chairman and CEO Ron Clarke.

Fleetcor Technologies (NYSE: FLT) helps affiliated merchants simplify and provide more secure payments of their fuel, toll, lodging and general payables. It serves businesses, partners and merchants in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
