Connecting people at AFMA Conference Melbourne
The 2019 Australasian Fleet Conference and exhibition got underway at Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne today with a safety field test allowing attendees to trial vehicles in braking and cornering both laden and unladen.
Over the next two days the conference will see close to 500 attendees and 40 presenters discuss all aspects of Fleet Management and Mace Hartley, Executive Director of the Association says that it is by far the biggest event yet staged.
Adding on to the concept
“With the addition of the Pedders Field Safety Day, the sheer logistics of staging the event has increased by 50%.” says Hartley, “apart from that, we’ll have the largest number of attendees and the largest number of speakers for any of our events to date.”
Hartley says that for AfMA, “it’s all about connecting people and knowledge and creating outcomes. This year we’ll see 13 new graduates from the Diploma of Leadership and Management, a course that AfMA has put together with Swinburne University that’s aimed directly at the Fleet Management profession.”
Women in the spotlight
Women in fleet are another theme this year with Carolyn Edwards, founder of the US based Women in Fleet Management (WIFM) set to provide a keynote speech and AfMA apparently set to announce an Australian arm of WIFM.
Major sponsor for the event will once again be Toyota Fleet and Toyota Fleet Management, their sponsorship of the conference extending to over 10 years. Glen Tomlinson, General Manager of Toyota Fleet Management says that “as an industry leader, the Toyota group has a role to play in supporting the development of the Fleet Management industry in Australia and we feel that the annual AfMA Conference is a great way to do that.”
Tomlinson says that AfMA plays a vital role in developing the industry and “in developing the professionalism of the industry and in providing a strong voice for its members.”
Over the next two days the Australasian fleet conference and exhibition will see presentations on a variety of topics from technology and fleet platforms through to grey fleets and insurance. Global Fleet will be providing daily updates, so stay tuned!
