Unilever’s Kibon going electric in Brazil

Kibon, the South American ice cream manufacturer of the Unilever group, is transitioning its fleet of distribution trucks in Brazil to electric vehicles (EV).

While five are already EVs in the city of Taboão da Serra (São Paulo state), an additional 15 should be electric by year-end 2023, part of the multinational consumer goods company’s decarbonization goal aimed at reducing its CO2 emissions by some 30%.

"We are publicly and globally committed to positive environmental impact by promoting various 'green' initiatives, programs, and operations across our brands. 98% of the CO2 emissions in our logistics come from transportation, so Kibon has intensified the presence of EVs to replace combustion vehicles," local news portal Mundo Logística quoted Unilever Brazil ice cream division head Luiz Henrique Dente as saying.

In 2026, all distribution centers throughout Brazil will have EVs as well as recharging facilities able to recharge up to 250km of range for automobiles, and as part of Unilever’s overall Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda, the company seeks to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030 and reach zero emissions by 2039.
