Mexico City publishes ride-hail app driver rules

Mexico City government has published rules for drivers of local ride-hail apps such as Uber, Didi, Cabify, and Beat, according to the city’s official gazette.

Among them are: Drivers must register with the city’s mobility department Semovi and vehicles must fall within the technical conditions of the department; Vehicles must have a minimum cost base of 250,000 pesos (US$13,250); Vehicles can be no more than 10 years old; A yearly vehicle validation (document review and physical inspection) is required.

Moreover, besides being properly registered, drivers must inform riders of their fares beforehand and explain fare variations such as multiple destinations or changes in the original destination.  They cannot receive payment in cash or non-bank pre payments.
