Brazil’s Movida continues electric wave with BYD vehicles acquisition
Starting in May, Brazilian vehicle leasing and fleet management company Movida will be receiving 250 new BYD electric vehicles (EV) at a price of some 100 million Brazilian reais (US$20.8mn).
With this acquisition of BYD Tan (SUV) and T3 (cargo LCV) vehicles, the company will increase its electrified fleet to 850 from 600. The move follows a multi-million-dollar bond issue in August which was partially aimed at “green fleet” acquisitions and a partnership with Nissan Motors in October to acquire Nissan Leaf EVs.
“The commercial alliance with BYD strengthens our goal of electrifying our fleet by 20% by 2030 and also reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 30%,” Movida CEO Renato Franklin said in a statement.
Movida is the third largest company of its kind in Brazil, only behind Localiza and Unidas.
