Hertz, GM to start multi-billion-dollar EV deal
Rental car company Hertz intends to order up to 175,000 electric vehicles (EV) from General Motors over the next five years, including Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadilac, and possibly BrightDrop brands, starting with new Chevrolet Bolt orders in early 2023.
According to the automaker's North American operations chief Steve Carlisle, the multi-billion-dollar deal could be the first of many GM agreements to supply EVs to rental car companies, a Reuters report said.
With a goal is to have 25% of its fleet electrified by the end of 2024, Hertz is seeking to create the largest rental fleet of EVs in North America.
Hertz also announced earlier this year, an intention to buy 100,000 EVs from Tesla and 65,000 from Volvo spin-off Polestar.
