Between micromobility and autonomous: Milla’s Mobility Pod

The future of cars might not only be autonomous and electric, but small as well as shaped like the Mobility Pod of Milla.

Lately various new designs of so-called ‘autonomous pods’, with the Mobility Pod of Milla as the last new-born concept, are being launched. Being autonomous, electric and small they could serve perfectly as a sustainable and efficient last-mile solution for passenger transport.

The French new car constructor Milla showcased its Mobility Pod at CES 2019. This little guy can take along up to six passengers, without the need for a driver, and drive up to 30 km/h. The Mobility Pod will compete with Navya and EasyMile who developed similar autonomous microcars before. However, the Milla will be launched first in a pilot project at the end of the first semester of 2019, in Vélizy (78). And founder Frédéric Mathis said at CES 2019 that they would like to reach the milestone of 1,000 assembled units within 3 years.

The company may look brand-new but they can count on a wide experience in autonomous mobility. Previously, founder Frédéric Mathis directed the programmes of connected and autonomous vehicles for Vedecom and Renault and his colleague Eric Gendarme worked for OBH Digital, a digital agency specialised in innovative projects for autonomous and connected vehicles.

Milla’s Mobility Pod, like the other pods of Navya and EasyMile, might in the future bridge the gap between micromobility and autonomous mobility and therefore become a promising part of a future transportation landscape.
