Geely to produce Lotus in China

After acquiring a majority of the Lotus shares from troubles Malaysian Proton Holdings in 2017, Geely has announced its plans to revamp the iconic brand. Production of the new, Chinese Lotus cars will no longer be in Norfolk, England, but in Wuhan, China.

Geely is an experienced car builder, pushing over 1.5 million vehicles a year to the Chinese market; in addition, the Chinese OEM is the owner of Volvo since 2010.

Production will start in 2021 and Geely hopes to build 150.000 units annually in its new production plant (electric and conventional). It’s not known how many of these will be Lotus; it’s also unknown if the Norfolk factory will continue building cars.
