New Energy at Buick China

Buick, joining forced with SAIC in China, is one of the first non-Chinese brands to become successful in the world’s second largest economy. Especially the Buick minivans were extremely popular – that is until the Chinese consumer became more power focused, then more luxury focused, then more SUV focused and now more EV focused. It’s tough keeping up.

Nevertheless, the Buick people have done their homework and are revealing no less than 4 new cars at Auto Shanghai 2019: Encore, Encore GX and GL8 Avenir Concept and the VELITE 6 MAV.

The Encore, Buick’s first China-produced SUV was launched in 2012; the vehicle is oriented towards young professionals and offers a high level of personalisation to match its clientele’s active and changing lifestyles.

The Avenir Concept targets a high-end MPV market and combines tech, art and luxury. Avenir is Buick’s sub-brand and comes not only with a different level of luxury and style, but also with a specific buying experience and excellent customer service.

But the star of the evening is definitely the VELITE 6, a roomy pure electric SUV with a range of 301 kilometre in the city. It will not only be sold to consumers: the first 5000 orders have been placed by EVCARD, an EV car sharing brand with whom Buick has started a partnership recently.

Buick will add another 8 new or refreshed products before end of 2019 and has planned 20 launches between 2019 and 2023.
