VinFast readies for the US after delivering the first VF 8 EVs

Vietnamese automaker VinFast, owned by Vietnam's largest conglomerate Vingroup, has delivered the first 100 fully electric VF 8 SUVs in Vietnam.

After announcing plans to build its first North America plant in North Carolina in March, VinFast took an important step in its global EV roadmap by delivering 100 VF 8 all-electric SUVs in Vietnam. After revealing two all-electric models at Los Angeles Auto Show in 2021, the VF 8 and VF 9, VinFast now sees the US, Canadian and European markets to expand its global customer base.

VinFast announced the decision to end producing internal combustion engine (ICE) cars by the end of 2022 while preparing an all-electric lineup for global sales. The models of all sizes include VF 5 (Mini),  VF 6 (Subcompact), VF 7 (Compact), VF 8 (Mid-size), and VF 9 (Full-size).

According to Electreck, VinFast received around 24,000 orders in 48 hours globally after opening reservations for VF 8 and VF 9. VinFast's global CEO, Madam Le Thi Thu Thuy, said the delivery "marks a turning point in Vietnam's history, and soon the enthusiasm will be shared by over 65,000 customers worldwide.

The VF 8 comes in two variants, Eco and Plus, both offered with two battery options, providing ranges up to 471 km for Eco and 447 km for Plus. Equipped with advanced driver assistance, intelligent infotainment and virtual assistant systems, both models are offered with a ten year warranty.

Planning to launch the North Carolina factory in 2024, VinFast is now preparing to ship around 5,000 VF 8s to the US, Canada and Europe, starting from November. Recently, VinFast has announced three key appointments in global positions, one regarding the US market.
