VW partners Microsoft to create connected fleet

Volkswagen has entrered a partnership with Microsoft as part of its strategy to become a mobility provider with a fully connected fleet of vehicles.

From 2020 onwards the German car firm plans to manufacture more than 5 million Volkswagen brand vehicles per year that are fully connected and part of the Internet of Things in the cloud.

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, said, “Volkswagen is harnessing technology to digitally transform and deliver innovative new connected car services to its customers.”

Volkswagen will use the Microsoft Azure platform to build its connected car services, which are set to include in-car consumer experiences and telematics.

The OEM will roll out solutions developed through its partnership with Microsoft to other Volkswagen Group brands in the longer term.
