Best-selling cars in Latin America 9M19

Among the four-wheeled superstars so far in Latin America this year are the Chevrolet Onix subcompact hatch, Toyota Hilux pickup, and Nissan Kicks compact SUV.

During the first three quarters of the year, the Onix remained the best-selling car in the 20+ country region, mostly due to sales in the three largest markets of Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina.

From January-September, a total of 205,481 units were sold, up 13.5% year-over year, followed by the Ford Ka subcompact hatch of which 126,319 units were sold (up 6.2%).
Coming in third was the best-selling pickup in Latin America, the Toyota Hilux with 95,067 units sold (down 3.6% year-over-year). In terms of best-selling pickups, it was followed by the Nissan NP300 (ranked No. 20) with 54,132 units and the Fiat Toro compact pickup (ranked No. 23) with 50,504 units.

Wrapping up the top 10 was the Volkswagen Gol at No. 4 with 90,086 units sold, followed by Nissan Versa (89,644 units), Renault Kwid (85,171), Hyundai HB20 (78,956), Chevrolet Prisma (77,873), Nissan Kicks (67,741), and Volkswagen Polo (65,644).
While the Nissan Kicks (ranked No. 9) was the best-selling compact SUV in the nine-month period, it was followed by fellow SUVs Jeep Renegade (No. 16) with 60,414 units, Honda HR-V (No. 21) with 52,871 units, Hyundai Creta (No. 22) with 51,247 units, and Jeep Compass (No. 24) with 50,200 units.

Latin America is a dynamic region which has been hitting the political and economic headlines recently. While car sales in countries such as Brazil and Colombia are up, countries like Mexico and Argentina are seeing decreases, especially the latter.
With less than two months to go until the end of the year, it is unlikely that the Chevrolet Onix and Ford Ka will be giving up their respective rankings for the year. As for the rest, we’ll have to wait and see in early 2020.
