Ford to bring all-electric Transit van to US and Canada in 2022

Ford will release an all-electric variant of its Transit van in the US and Canada in two year’s time. Details have not yet been disclosed and a launch in the rest of the world has not been announced.

Built in the US, the all-electric Transit will be smart and connected, offering cloud-based services to optimise fleet performance.

Ford said the electric Transit will have access to the largest public charging network in North America.

Specs have not yet been published but Ford said it will be built in the US with domestic and foreign parts and it will be available in three roof heights and three body lengths.

Earlier, Mercedes-Benz unveiled an electric version of its Sprinter van. Rivian, an EV start-up, has also designed an electric van and has secured an order for 100,000 of them by Amazon.

Europe

In April 2019, Ford Europe unveiled plans to market its own electric Transit van, which they wanted to bring to market in 2021. More details have not been published but Ford will undoubtedly make these plans a reality, particularly after the demise of StreetScooter.

Also in Europe, the one-tonne Transit Custom is also available as a plug-in hybrid.
