DHL Canada awaits BrightDrop EVs as new factory comes on-line

Parcel delivery service DHL Express is awaiting BrightDrop Zevo 600 electric delivery vans for its fleet in Canada, as the country’s first full-scale electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing factory known as CAMI is now producing vehicles.

General Motors’ electric commercial vehicle subsidiary, BrightDrop, is producing vehicles at its new facility in Ingersoll, Ontario, and DHL is its first customer. First Zevo 600 deliveries for DHL Canada are expected in early 2023.

The delivery company will also be piloting BrighDrop’s Trace eCarts, an electric motor driver cart for carrying packages for delivery personnel on foot. It is part of DHL’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

BrightDrop intends to build 50,000 Zevo vans per year by 2025 at CAMI. While scaled production of the Zevo 600 will kick off at the beginning of 2023, the smaller Zevo 400 will start in late 2023. To date, BrightDrop has  delivered 150 electric vans in the U.S.
