Brazil swears in President Jair Bolsonaro

Brazil swore in President Jair Messias Bolsonaro of the PSL party on Tuesday (Jan 1), kicking off the country’s first non-PT workers party four-year government term in two decades.

During his inaugural speech, the right-wing president promised deregulation and less bureaucracy and a strong focus on key bilateral agreements as opposed to multilateral agreements such as Mercosur (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay).

A total of 28 government officials were present at the inauguration, 10 being heads of states. Among them were Chile President Sebastián Piñera, Bolivia President Evo Morales, Portugal President Marcelo Rebelo, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
As for the automotive industry, much lies on the newly announced ROTA 2030 program, a federal government policy for the car industry recently sanctioned by the previous administration of former President Michel Temer.
