Hankook launches EV-specific tyre range

Tyre manufacturer Hankook is launching a new range of tyres designed specifically for electric vehicles that have scored triple A ratings in EU tyre tests.

The new iON range will deliver lower rolling resistance and reduced rolling-noise to extend the range and enhance the tranquillity of EVs, according to the company.

The new iON tyres will be available in sizes between 18 and 22 inches, and have been designed for greater resilience to withstand the higher load and instant torque of EVs.

They will be available in Europe from May as the Hankook Ventus iON S summer tyre pattern, and from September 2022 for the winter season as the Hankook Winter i*cept iON. In North America, the Hankook Ventus iON A  will be available as an all-season tyre.

Audi, BMW, Porsche and Volkswagen are among the vehicle manufacturers that are fitting Hankook tyres optimised for electromobility as original equipment.

Klaus Krause, Head of the Hankook Tyre Europe Technical Centre, said: “We are particularly proud that the new Hankook iON summer tyre, for example, has achieved an A/A/A rating on the EU tyre label. This corresponds to the highest performance in terms of rolling resistance, wet grip and tyre noise.”
