Audi gives E-tron 25km more range

Apart from introducing the Sportback derivative (pictured above) in L.A., Audi has enhanced the electric range of its E-tron. The German premium OEM says it has improved the software (more regenerative braking) and the hardware (battery cooling) to squeeze 25 extra kilometres from the cells, so that the 55 Quattro model now boasts a WLTP range of 436km. The entry-level 50 Quattro – which costs €10,000 less (excluding VAT) and is 120kg lighter – can now claim 336km.

In the case of the sleeker, more aerodynamic E-tron Sportback you can add 10 kilometres in both cases. That brings the Audi E-tron Sportback 55 Quattro (446km) a bit closer to its rival, the Jaguar I-Pace, which is rated at 470km. The Tesla Model X Long Range still holds the title of the longest-range SUV, with an 'electric liberty' of 507km.
