Fleet procurement has long been about price and availability. Still, sustainability has risen up the boardroom agenda for almost every fleet organisation lately because of regulation and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) goals. Prioritising sustainability has to be top of mind, and this is challenged by prolonged supply chain issues, plus political and economic uncertainty.

- Implement lifecycle assessments: Conduct comprehensive lifecycle assessments of vehicles, goods, and services to evaluate their environmental impact from production to disposal and make informed procurement decisions.
- Prioritize sustainable materials: To minimise waste generation, source goods and services that utilize sustainable and eco-friendly materials, such as recycled or biodegradable products.
- Promote sharing and pooling: Explore opportunities for collaborative procurement or sharing arrangements with other organizations or fleets to optimize resource utilization and reduce procurement needs.
- Encourage local sourcing: Prioritize local suppliers to reduce transportation-related emissions and support the local economy.
- Engage in eco-friendly logistics: Choose logistics partners and service providers that prioritize sustainability, such as those with efficient route planning, use of low-emission vehicles, and sustainable packaging practices.
- Establish green procurement policies: Develop and enforce procurement policies prioritising sustainability and setting specific targets and requirements for suppliers and service providers.
- Consider the total cost of ownership: Evaluate procurement decisions based on the total cost of ownership, including fuel efficiency, maintenance, and environmental impact, rather than solely focusing on the upfront costs.
