Chilexpress joins race to be 100% electric

Chilean logistics and parcel delivery company Chilexpress is set on transforming its fleet to 100% electric vehicles (EV), starting with a fleet of EVs in the Magallanes region.

In the city of Punta Arenas, the company has deployed five EVs (pictured above), allowing it to reduce their CO2 emissions in the region by more than 19 tons per year. It is part of the company’s Doble Zero (double zero) commitment to send zero waste to landfills by 2025 and to achieve zero net carbon emissions no later than 2035.

These vehicles are just part of the organizations overall electrification plan to deploy 120 electric vans along its routes, making up the largest last-mile electric fleet in Chile and having the capacity to collectively reduce more than 700 tons of CO2 emissions per year. Currently, 94 EVs are already operating in the region, and the rest will soon be deployed in other cities throughout the country.

The new vehicles, which are Maxus e Deliver 3 electric vans, can transport up to one ton of cargo and have a range that can top 210km.

“We mark a new milestone in the industry, which encourages us to continue working towards our Double Zero target, combating the climate emergency and offering increasingly sustainable deliveries to our customers…We are extremely proud to have our first 100% electric fleet in one of the southernmost cities in the world,” says Chilexpress General Manager Alfonso Díaz (pictured left).

Through the company’s ambitious decarbonization plan, it is seeking to have at least 50% of its national deliveries to be accomplished with EVs by 2025, apart from Punta Arenas which is already 100%.

Present in the 16 regions of the country where 98% of the population live, Chilexpress has more than 1,100 branches and 75 operation centers.

Worldwide

The trend of electrifying logistics and parcel delivery companies for last-mile solutions has hit the world on a global scale. Just to mention a few, besides Mercado Libre in Latin America, DHL in Belgium, and Royal Mail in the UK, the United States Postal Services (USPS) is going through large scale EV transitions.
