OCTO provides telematics for Techpilot

OCTO Telematics has been selected as the exclusive telematics provider for Techpilot, a one-year project for newly licensed drivers, an initiative of the Insurance Company of British Columbia (ICBC).

Launched in January, Techpilot aims to demonstrate that telematics can modify driving behaviour of inexperienced drivers for the better. ICBC selected OCTO's Digital Driver, an insurance telematics solution, to provide insight into driving behaviour and associated risk.

Participants in the pilot will use their smartphone in combination with a Smart Tag provided by OCTO to detect and score their driving behaviour (speeding, braking, using their phone while driving, etc.)

  • Half of the participants will fully interact with OCTO's Digital Driver: receiving their score, feedback and rewards (i.e. gift cards to retailers and restaurants).
  • The other half will only receive rewards based on their participation in the Techpilot.

ICBC will use the results of the pilot to optimise its telematics strategy and plan.

“We look forward to the results from this project to further demonstrate the societal benefits (of insurance telematics),” said Nicola Veratelli, CEO of OCTO Group.
