Through a partnership with Vodacom and Altron, Toyota South Africa Motors will equip all new models (including Lexus) with wireless internet connectivity from 1st September 2019.

The new initiative also offers telematics monitoring through Toyota Connect, a new hub contained within the MyToyota app. Technology company Altron will provide WiFi devices and monitoring through Vodacom’s data network.

From automotive manufacturer to mobility-solutions provider

As Toyota transitions from auto manufacturer to mobility-solutions provider, fleet vehicle owners can check the health of car batteries, receive vehicle mileage details and offer roadside assistance.

This is the first package that offers convergence of WiFi and connectivity features in the world and Toyota is currently the only manufacturer in SA to provide a mobile app that’s fully integrated with manufacturer and dealer systems.

Toyota is expecting to have over 1 million vehicles in SA by the end of 2019 (it currently has 950,000). The new WiFi system can be fitted to older Toyota models for a fee.
