EV100 - electric as the new normal

If applied right, EV integration can reduce running costs of fleets, claims the Climate Group, the organisation behind the EV100, the coalition who unites companies to accelerate the EV transition.

EV100 brings together companies committed to accelerate the transition to EVs in order to make electric transport the new normal by 2030. As a result, greenhouse gases will be cut, and air and noise pollution will be reduced significantly. Moreover, running costs of fleets can be reduced, and why not considering customer charging as a marketing tool. Moreover, EV100 appoints to the possibility of retailers to partner with utilities to install EV charging on their parking lots, creating a low-investment opportunity to generate additional revenue. EV100 even organises dedicated webinars and publishes dedicated guides, such as the ‘Guidance for installing EV charging points for company staff and customers’.

Companies can join the EV100 to showcase their electric transport leadership, and to share best practices in order to help other members reduce EV investment costs. Furthermore, EV100 drives engagement and dialogue between governments and other stakeholders to address the remaining barriers to EV uptake and infrastructure roll-out.

Electric by 2030

Any company can join the initiative by making a public commitment to one or more of the EV100 areas, to be realised by 2030:

  • Integrating electric vehicles into directly owned or leased corporate fleets
  • Adding requirements in service contracts for electric vehicle usage
  • Supporting staff to use electric vehicles by installing charging infrastructure at all premises
  • Supporting electric vehicle uptake by customers by installing charging infrastructure at all premises

In order to obtain this goal, battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids with extended range (minimum of 30 miles/50km electric) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles can be used.

Inspiring Members

Notable among the current EV100 members are Deutsche Post DHL Group and LeasePlan. The first is the world’s leading mail and logistics company, which set the bold target of providing zero emissions logistics by 2050. EVs are the way to go for them, they will replace the entire current mail and parcel delivery fleet, and will be charged by renewable energy sources. At the moment, the company already operates the largest electric fleet in Germany, and even has its own vehicle manufacturer, StreetScooter.

Inspiring to us is the commitment of LeasePlan, with fleet management services in 32 countries. To end up with the total electrification of all its leasing vehicles by 2030, the company will start will the electrification of its own corporate fleet by 2021.
