First hyperloop in India?

So far, hyperloops seem limited to science-fiction or pilot projects, yet that might be about to change soon with the first system possibly to be developed in India.

Although plans for hyperloops have been made for several years now, with Elon Musk as a pioneer, they have not yet developed beyond pilot projects and plans. However, officials in India claim that they have designated a public infrastructure project – supposed to be a hyperloop – and that it soon will be taking bids on its construction.

The hyperloop to be constructed in the western district of Maharashtra will be operated by the companies Virgin Hyperloop One and shipping giant DP World. The Pune-to-Mumbai hyperloop will be constructed after the bidding process is completed, making it possible to travel between both cities in less than 25 minutes, which now takes about 3.5 hours by car. And Virgin Hyperloop One sees itself already as the winner of the bidding, while DP World will spend $500 million to complete phase one of the project. But let’s wait and see if the Indian officials will really trust the brand-new system as a safe road transportation system for human beings.
