Free2Move launches in Washington DC

Following its recent deployment in China, Free2Move will launch in Washington DC at the end of this month – and in Paris soon thereafter.

The free-floating car-sharer’s American expansion was announced at the Paris Motor Show by Brigitte Courtehoux, Executive VP for Mobility and Connected Services at Groupe PSA, the parent company of Free2Move.

By the end of October, Free2Move will make available 600 vehicles in Washington DC – making it the sole provider of car-sharing services in the U.S. capital. For its fleet, Free2Move opted for two Chevrolet models: the Cruze and the Equinox. There will be no electric cars, because trips are generally longer in the U.S.

Following the suspension of Autolib’ services in Paris and environs at the start of August, the introduction of Free2Move in the French capital became increasingly likely. Ms Courtehoux would not give a specific starting date, revealing only that there would be 500 Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-Zero cars available in Paris no later than December.

Two competitors have already beaten Free2Move to it, with the earlier arrival of Car2Go (by Daimler) and the launch of Moov’in.Paris (by Renault) this Wednesday.
