Didi sets up autonomous driving subsidiary

Didi Chuxing, China’s largest ridehailing service provider, created a subsidiary to develop self-driving technologies for connected and automated vehicles, reports Automotive News China.

Two years ago, the company already opened a lab in Mountain View, California (pictured) to explore the possibilities of artificial intelligence in vehicles.

Last year, Didi got official government approval in China to start tests with self-driving vehicles. It is also conducting such tests in California.

Didi has been expanding its ridehailing activities abroad, including cities in Australia, Brazil, Mexico and Japan.
