GM challenges Tesla with Ultra Cruise hands-free driving feature

GM unveiled a new self-driving feature.

GM announced its newest autonomous driving technology called "Ultra Cruise, enabling hands-free driving in 95% of all driving scenarios.

Ultra-Cruise will be available in the USA and Canada and cover 3.2 million kilometres of roads at its launch. Eventually, the capacity will increase to around 5.5 million kilometres in the two countries.

Ultra Cruise is powered by the Ultifi software platform and GM's newly established Vehicle Intelligence Platform. GM cars will get a full 360-degree vision through cameras, radars and LİDAR to provide a highly accurate panoramic view.

A challenge to Tesla

The feature can make automatic lane changes, right and left turns and perform automated parking. Additionally, Ultra Cruise can recognize traffic posts, warning signs and detects hazards and avoids them.

Ultra Cruise appears as a direct challenge to Tesla's autonomous self-driving feature and will be available in premium models. The former version, Super Cruise, will come with more budget models.
