The Big Apple allows Big Scooter Companies
While the scooter industry is booming globally, New York City so far had no scooters on its streets. That's about to change, as big scooter companies like Bird and Lime are finally allowed to enter the Big Apple.
After having been out of the scooter game a long time, the ban on e-scooters and e-bikes might have finally be lifted, if Governor Andrew Cuomo signs off the new law. The state law would legalise e-bikes and scooters, yet cities are still required to opt in, and localities will still have the opportunity to decide for themselves about the regulation. In addition, shared scooter and e-bike services must be permitted by municipalities before launching.
Yet, while the scooters and bikes can start running through the state as from now, Manhattan will remain scooter-free for the moment, as some lawmakers are still opposed to legalising scooters for safety reasons and to avoid pavement obstruction.
