Lyft, Motional team up to provide autonomous EV ride hailing

California-based ride hailing company Lyft and driverless technology firm Motional are jointly planning the launch of an autonomous and full-electric ride-hail service in Las Vegas for the general public, the first of its kind in the US state of Nevada.

In the second semester of 2022 during phase one of the plan, passengers will be transported by next-generation robotaxis made up of the Hyundai IONIQ 5, experiencing end-to-end journeys autonomously. The full-scale commercial launch is expected in 2023.

According to the companies, the service will be scalable beyond Las Vegas, eventually reaching millions of riders in several markets.
